The Carmelle started with the woven baskets stacked in the corner of a shoreline kitchen — cone-shaped, open enough to see daylight through, edges finished by hand rather than cut flat. Turned upside down and hung from a chain, that basket became the shade: a tapered weave whose rim was reshaped into a soft scalloped hem, so the silhouette ends in a wave instead of a hard line. Warm gold hardware carries the coastal-cottage note. The series grew from there into a sconce, a table lamp, and a floor lamp sharing the same hand.
Hand-Woven Rattan Shade
Natural rattan woven by hand over a cone frame. Light filters through the open weave and throws a textured shadow pattern on ceiling and walls.
Scalloped Wavy Hem
The bottom rim is shaped into a wavy scalloped edge — a softer, more decorative silhouette than a plain drum shade.

Which size should I choose?
The Small (13.8″ / 35 cm) suits breakfast nooks, entryways, kitchen island ends, and bedsides. The Large (19.7″ / 50 cm) suits dining tables seating 4–6, kitchen islands, and living room corners. Over a dining table, leave about 6–12″ clear on each side of the shade for visual balance.
Can the chain drop be adjusted?
Yes — the gold chain is adjustable at install, so you can set the shade at the right height for your ceiling and surface. Shorten it by removing links and re-routing the cord through the chain, then tuck the slack above the canopy.
Can I install it myself, or do I need an electrician?
It hardwires to a standard US ceiling junction box and hangs on the chain. A confident DIYer with hardwire experience can handle it, but a licensed electrician is recommended for code compliance. The rattan shade is lightweight, so no reinforced bracing is needed.
